Konqueror - is the file manager for KDE (the K Desktop Environment). It supports basic file management on local UNIX filesystems, from simple cut/copy and paste operations to advanced remote and local network file browsing. Konqueror is also an web browser and a universal viewing application.
Dolphin - is a file manager for KDE focusing on usability. Dolphin is not intended to be a competitor to Konqueror: Konqueror acts as universal viewer being able to show HTML pages, text documents, directories and a lot more, whereas Dolphin focuses on being only a file manager. This approach allows to optimize the user interface for the task of file management.
Portos Commander (Pcmm) - is a linux file manager for KDE 3.x. It is patterned after old- school managers like Midnight Commander and Norton Commander. It features basically all your file- management needs, file searcher, internal viewer, URL database, ftp, ... .
GNU Nautilus - is the official file manager for the GNOME desktop. Nautilus is a network user environment that integrates access to files, applications, media, Internet-based services and the Web. Nautilus should come bundled with your distribution. Nautilus supports scripts for quickly adding extra functionality. Many users have already taken advantage of this to create lots of nice scripts. Krusader - is an advanced twin panel (commander style) file manager for KDE 3.1 or later, similar to Midnight or Total Commander, with many extras. It provides all the file- management features you could possibly want. Plus: extensive archive handling, mounted filesystem support, FTP, advanced search module, viewer/editor, directory synchronisation, file content comparisons, powerful batch renaming and much much more.
Thunar - is a new modern file manager for the Xfce Desktop Environment. Thunar has been designed from the ground up to be fast and easy-to-use. Its user interface is clean and intuitive, and does not include any confusing or useless options.
Endeavour MARK II - is a complete file management suite with File Manager, Image Browser, Archiver, Recycled Objects system, and a set of file & disk management utility programs. It is based on the original Endeavour.
Ytree - is similar to xtree. With some helper applications (zip, zoo, tar, rpm, etc.) you can also browse archive files. Viewers for "special" files are configurable (wav, gif, etc.).
X File Explorer (Xfe) - is an MS-Explorer like file manager for X. It is based on the popular, but discontinued, X Win Commander.
Midnight Commander - is a visual file manager, licensed under GNU General Public License and therefore qualifies as Free Software. It's a feature rich full-screen text mode application that allows you to copy, move and delete files and whole directory trees, search for files and run commands in the subshell. Internal viewer and editor are included.
GNOME Commander - s a fast and powerful graphical filemanager for the Gnome desktop environment, it has a "two-pane" interface in the tradition of Norton and Midnight Commander.
PCMan File Manager - is an extremly fast, lightweight, yet feature-rich file manager with tabbed browsing.
Kruiser - (formerly known as kexplorer) is a Win95-like file system explorer written by Michael Goffioul. It is provided under the GPL.
Mollify - is a web file manager for publishing and managing files hosted in a web server of your choice. Different users can have access to different files and with different permissions.
