Vi Lovers Home Page  - The Vi Lovers Home Page has links to the latest version of different Vi implementations. In addition, there are links to useful documentation, FAQs, and other (better) Vi related resources. This is the best place to be for every Vi user or Vi user wannabe.

VIM  - "Vi IMproved" is an improved version of the editor "vi", one of the standard text editors on UNIX systems. VIM adds many of the features that you would expect in an editor: Unlimited undo, syntax coloring, split windows, visual selection, graphical user interface (read: menus, mouse control, scrollbars, text selection), and much much more.

VILE - Vi Like Emacs  - is a text editor. vile retains the "finger-feel", if you will, of vi, while adding the multiple buffer and multiple window features of emacs and other editors. It is definitely not a vi clone.

Emacs  - Emacs is the extensible, customizable, self-documenting real-time display editor. Emacs has special code editing modes, a scripting language (elisp), and comes with many packages for doing mail, news and more, all in your editor.

XEmacs  - is a highly customizable open source text editor and application development system. It is protected under the GNU Public License and related to other versions of Emacs, in particular GNU Emacs.

GNU Midnight Commander  - First of all GNU Midnight Commander is a text-mode full-screen file manager. It uses a two panel interface and a subshell for command execution. It includes an internal editor (mcedit) with syntax highlighting and an internal viewer with support for binary files.

Glimmer  - is a full featured code editor with many advanced features. At the current time, Glimmer has syntax highlighting support for the following languages: Ada, Bash/Sh, C/C++, DTML, HTML, Java, Latex, GNU Make, Object Caml, Perl, PHP, PO (Language Translation), Python, Lisp (guile, scheme, etc), SGML, SQL, Tcl/Tk, WML, XML, and Z80 Assembly.

Crisp  - is a programmers text editor designed to give user the power and flexibility to edit large files on multiple Unix, Linux, Windows and Mac platforms. It incorporates most of the advanced concepts of vi, Emacs, BRIEF and various Windows products while presenting the most intuitive user interface possible.

Xwpe  - is a programming environment for UNIX systems writen by Fred Kruse. The user interface mimics the Borland C and Pascal family of products for MS-DOS. From within xwpe you can edit, compile, and debug programs.

LaTeX  - is a high-quality typesetting system, with features designed for the production of technical and scientific documentation. LaTeX is the de facto standard for the communication and publication of scientific documents.

NEdit  - is a fast, compact Motif/X11 plain text editor, for most popular Unix systems. Features significant support for programmers including syntax highlighting, macro language, and streamlined keyboard navigation. Mature and stable.

jEdit  - is an Open Source programmer's text editor written in Java. It is released under the GNU General Public License and is being developed by Slava Pestov, with occasional code contributions from various other people.

FTE Text Editor  - is a free (licensed under the GNU GPL) text editor for developers. It is really powerful, yet very easy and intuitive to use.

GNU nano  - is an effort to provide a Pico- like editor, but also includes some features that were missing in the original, such as "search and replace" and "goto line". As it's written from scratch, it's smaller and faster.

hnb  - is an hierarchical notebook, that is an editor that focuses on editing and managing information in a hierarchical manner. This type of editor is also known as outline editors.
