[netcount]  - is a package for logging and displaying PPP network traffic on Linux machines. Logging is done via a small shell script which is called during the ip-up, ip-down and system startup processes and from cron, while analysis and printing is done by a program written in Python.

[GNU Wget]  - is a network utility to retrieve files from the Web using http and ftp. It works non-interactively, so it will work in the background, after having logged off. The program supports recursive retrieval of web-authoring pages as well as ftp sites. Wget supports proxy servers; this can lighten the network load, speed up retrieval, and provide access behind firewalls.
[GnomeTransferManager]  - allows the user to retrieve multiple files from the web. These files can be retrieved in multiple parts and each part retrieved on a separate session that the user is connected to the Internet. This is most useful to users with dialup connections. [WebFilter]  - formerly known as NoShit. WebFilter is a patch to Cern's httpd web server. This server can act as a proxy. This is commonly used in order to hop over a security firewall or to implement caching of web pages, but it can be used to filter the web as well.

[Sylpheed]  - is an e-mail client (and news reader), based on GTK+. The appearance and interface are similar to some popular e-mail clients for Windows. The interface is also designed to emulate the mailers on Emacsen.

[Pronto!]  - is a highly modularized GTK Mail Client written in Perl. It is a continuation of the development of the CSCMail project in Perl. Pronto! is Free Software released under the GPL License.
[Mulberry]  - is a (commercial) high-performance, scalable, and graphically groovy internet mail client. It uses the IMAP (IMAP4rev1, IMAP4, and IMAP2bis) protocol for accessing mail messages on a server.
[XCmail]  - is a MIME and multi POP3 server capable mailtool for X11 using the Xclasses layout library. XCmail was designed completely object orientated and by this may be improved easily.
[Exmh]  - is an X user interface for MH mail. MH provides a set of UNIX commands that manage folders and mail messages. MH has a zillion features as a result of several years of availability.

[SpamAssassin]  - is a mail filter to identify spam. Using its rule base, it uses a wide range of heuristic tests on mail headers and body text to identify "spam", also known as unsolicited commercial email.
[DSPAM]  - is an anti-spam filter, currently effective as both a server-side agent for UNIX email servers and a developer's library for mail clients, other anti-spam tools, and similar projects requiring drop-in spam filtering
[Bogofilter]  - is a fast Bayesian spam filter along the lines suggested by Paul Graham in his article A Plan For Spam.

[SpamCruncher]  - is a GPL'd small perl-Script, that uses spamassassin for identifiying spam on remote POP3 or IMAP- Servers.
[Popfilter]  - is a short Perl script supposed to run just before fetchmail to delete email on pop3 server.
[Animail]  - is a POP3/APOP/IMAP4 (with or without SSL) mail retrieval utility. It features an advanced filtering system based on blacklisting, whitelisting, or a combination of both.
[KShowmail]  - is a POP3 mail checker for KDE. It loads mail headers from pop3 servers and you can delete selected mails on servers. KShowmail supports multiple accounts.
[IMAP Spam Begone]  - (isbg) is a script that makes it easy to scan an IMAP inbox for spam using SpamAssassin and get your spam moved to another folder. Unlike the normal mode of deployments for SpamAssassin, isbg does not need to be involved in mail delivery, and can run on completely different machines to where your mailbox actually is.
[SaveMyModem]  - is an anti-spam, mail-shaper, delete- on- server software thought for users who have a dialup connection and are sick and tired of downloading 1MB a day of spam and Win32-worm-attached messages. Since now it supports only pop3 accounts, and smtp accounts for complaining.
[MIMEDefang  - is a robust e-mail filter designed to protect Windows clients from mail-borne viruses and trojans. It has become the leading Milter worldwide, but MIMEDefang is intended for experienced Linux administrators.
[SwenDeleter]  - tries to identify email messages infected with the Swen.A worm in POP3 mailboxes and delete them on the server.
[MailStripper]  - is an SMTP spam filter with anti-virus capability, and is Mail Transfer Agent (MTA) independent. This filter software works with SMTP-based MTAs by filtering the incoming SMTP stream.

[asWedit]  - is a comprehensive and easy-to-use HTML and text editor for the X Window System and Motif. The program offers three independent modes: a plain text-editing mode and two context-sensitive, validating modes for the authoring of HyperText Markup Language documents.
[August]  - is a free HTML - Editor for Linux and Unix. It's a non-wysiwyg editor - like Aswedit or Hotdog. It's written with the Tcl/TK scripting language and graphical toolkit. It's distributed as a single tcl script, which means that if you know Tcl/Tk you can very easily customize August yourself.
[Bluefish]  - is a GTK HTML editor for the experienced web designer or programmer. Bluefish has extended support for programming dynamic and interactive websites, there is for example a lot of PHP support.
[Ginf]  - is a Web-site creation software for the Linux platform, in the lines of Netscape Composer and Microsoft FrontPage. You don't need to know any HTML to create Web pages with GINF.
[Quanta Plus]  - is a web development tool for the K Desktop Environment. Quanta is designed for quick web development and is rapidly becoming a mature editor with a number of great features.

[Linklint]  - is an Open Source Perl program that checks links on web sites. It is licensed under the Gnu General Public License.

[Overnet & eDonkey]  - Overnet uses a completely decentralized peer to peer network. eDonkey2000 uses the same download system as Overnet but relies on central servers to search for files.
[mldonkey]  - Formerly, mldonkey was a Linux client for the eDonkey network, built from a reverse-engineered version of the protocol. Now, it is also able to connect to multiple networks (gnutella, Direct-Connect, Soulseek, etc).

[Cyrus IMAP Server]  - is generally intended to be run on sealed systems, where normal users are not permitted to log in. The mailbox database is stored in parts of the filesystem that are private to Cyrus. All user access to mail is through the IMAP, POP3, or KPOP protocols. The private mailbox database design gives the server large advantages in efficiency, scalability, and administratability.
[Binc IMAP]  - is a well designed, modular IMAP server for Maildir. Its goals are to be secure, stable, and fast, yet flexible and easy to maintain.

[Popa3d]  - is a tiny POP3 daemon, designed with security as the primary goal. It's written from scratch by Solar Designer for OWL (Openwall Gnu/*/Linux). Popa3d can work both in standalone or inetd mode.
[Teapop]  - is an RFC1939 and RFC2449 compliant POP3- Server, which is quickly gaining world- wide recognition. With its' flexible virtual domain support, Teapop distinguishes itself from other POP3-servers.

[Midgard]  - is an Open Source content management system based on Apache and MySQL. The system uses PHP as its scripting language.
[ZOPE]  - is software you run on a server to publish dynamic web sites. It consists of a web and ftp server, a middle layer which coordinates getting things into and out of the database, and an object database.

[djbdns]  - is a DNS package by DJ Bernstein that consists of dnscache (a caching DNS resolver), tinydns (a DNS server), pickdns (a load-balancing DNS server), walldns (a reverse DNS wall), axfrdns (an implementation of an area transfer server), a few DNS clients and troubleshooting tools. djbdns separates the resolver and the server, which provides enhanced security and flexibility.
[BIND]  - (Berkeley Internet Name Domain) is an implementation of the Domain Name System (DNS) protocols and provides an openly redistributable reference implementation of the major components of the Domain Name System, including: a Domain Name System server (named), a Domain Name System resolver library, tools for verifying the proper operation of the DNS server.
[MaraDNS]  - is a package that implements the Domain Name Service. MaraDNS is intended for environments where a DNS server must be secure and where the server must use the absolute minimum number of resources possible. The code uses a special string library which is resistant to buffer overflows. The code, if started as root, mandates running as an unprivledged user in a chroot() jail.
[Dnsmasq]  - is designed to provide DNS and, optionally, DHCP, to a small network. Dnsmasq is targeted at home networks using NAT and connected to the internet via a modem, cable-modem or ADSL connection but would be a good choice for any small network where low resource use and ease of configuration are important.
[PowerDNS]  - is a modern, advanced and high performance authoritative-only nameserver. It is written from scratch and conforms to all relevant DNS standards documents. The PowerDNS Nameserver utilizes, a flexible backend architecture can access DNS information from any data source. This includes file formats, Bind zone files, relational databases or LDAP directories.
[pdns]  - does not aim to be a complete name server such as BIND. It is optimized for caching, and you can only specify a small subset of all dns record types pdnsd knows in your local "zone" definitions. This of course reduces the code size drastically, and such the memory footprint. There are some features especially interesting for dialin networks and computers that are often not connected to to their network.

[TightVNC]  - is an enhanced version of VNC, which includes a lot of new features, improvements, optimizations and bugfixes over the original VNC version.
[PuTTY]  - is a free implementation of Telnet and SSH for Win32 and Unix platforms, along with an xterm terminal emulator.
[OpenSSH for Windows]  - is a free package that installs a minimal OpenSSH server and client utilities in the Cygwin package without needing the full Cygwin installation.
[LUFS]  - is enabling you to mount into your file hierarchy a remote computer's file system, which is accessible by various means (ftp, ssh, etc.). Then, the access to the remote files will be completely network transparent.
[shfs/sshfs]  - The "(Secure) SHell FileSystem Linux kernel module" is a simple and easy to use Linux kernel (2.4) module which allows you to mount remote filesystems using plain shell (ssh/rsh) connection.
[vsftpd]  - is a GPL licensed FTP server for UNIX systems, including Linux. It is secure and extremely fast. It is stable.
[Pure-FTPd]  - is a free (GPL), secure, production-quality and standard-conformant FTP server based upon Troll-FTPd.
[oftpd]  - is designed to be as secure as an anonymous FTP server can possibly be. It runs as non-root for most of the time, and uses the Unix chroot() command to hide most of the systems directories from external users - they cannot change into them even if the server is totally compromised!
[twoftpd]  - is a new FTP server that strives to be secure, simple, and efficient. None of the commands can cause execution of other programs, and the normal model of execution does a chroot to the logged in user's directory immediately after authentication.
[OpenNap]  - Open Source Napster Server is a server for connecting the clients together. With Napster, the files stay on the client machine, never passing through the server. The server provides the ability to search for particular files and initiate a direct transfer between the clients.
[eFarm]  - is a peer-to-peer server, based on eDonkey protocol which offers optimized functionnalities for eMule clients. eFarm is based on module system which offers to developers the ability to write a specified module for other peer-to-peer networks.
[Nagios]  - is a commercial host and service monitor designed to inform you of network problems before your clients, end-users or managers do. When problems are encountered, the daemon can send notifications out to administrative contacts in a variety of different ways (email, instant message, SMS, etc.).
